Full Steam Ahead — I’m Joining Radian6!

Post image for Full Steam Ahead — I’m Joining Radian6!

Oh, man. This has been bubbling for a bit and now that I’m here, after an intense year of job searching, I’m at a loss for words.

Okay, I’m not really at a loss for words, I just enjoy being a little dramatic with news this awesome.

As the title of this post says, I’m joining the Radian6 team as the company’s Content Marketing Manager. In this role I’ll be overseeing the development of content that moves the needle for both Radian6 and the social media monitoring and communications fields, shines light on the incredible work our clients are doing in the online social space and satisfies the educational and informational needs of the community. Basically, I’ll be living in Content Strategy and Creation Land, which is just fine with me!

I’m going to be totally honest with you guys — I held out for this. No, I’m not psychic, but I knew in my heart that the exact role I was looking for would come to me if I just gave Time a chance to work its magic. While this job search was filled to the brim with ups and downs (read: countless of moments of doubt), I am incredibly blessed to have infinitely supportive parents who let me live with them, were willing to help me meet my financial responsibilities and just let me hunker down and wait for the right opportunity to come along. (THANK YOU, MOM AND DAD!)

Radian6 landed at the top of my list of organizations I’d love to work with for a few reasons. Above all, the Radian6 team is incredibly engaging with and responsive to its community; R6 lives and breathes its technology and the social business tenets it supports, and faces head-on the ever-present need for new educational resources and thought leadership in the digital space. In an industry in which opportunities to get sidetracked by shiny objects abound, Radian6 focuses on the bigger picture by emphasizing the philosophy and culture shift necessary to create a working and effective social business model.

And the people are pretty incredible, too.

Which brings me to my next point…

Amber Naslund, Radian6’s Director of Community, has been one of the most integral pieces of my job search/professional growth puzzle and I can’t really go on without giving her a HUGE THANK YOU. So many people have supported me over the past year as I’ve grown into this space, but Amber has believed in my skills and capabilities like no other. She’s become a great friend, too, and I am SO thrilled to be working directly with her in my new role. (Crap, I’m all choked up.)

I could say that the journey is over, but it’s really just started, right? I owe thanks to so many of you guys, and I’ll be sending them your way in the days to come. There’s a ton of work to get done and I’m stoked to dive right on in.

Oh, and…yes, I’ll be moving to Chicago in late March/early April. :)

We’ll make sure to warm Chicago up for you by then. :)

Congratulations!

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:09 am

Haha, thanks, Caleb! Honestly, I get more than enough warmth out here so I can stand a little chilliness. :)

Lauren Vargas January 15, 2010 at 7:45 am

Can I just say I am stoked to have you on the Radian6 team?!

I second Amber’s thoughts about your tenacity and smarts…looking forward to working with you.

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:14 am

Ah, I’m definitely looking forward to working with you, too. I’ll be picking your brain soon enough, L, so watch out! :)

Tim Jahn January 15, 2010 at 7:49 am

Holy crap! That’s basically been my reaction for the past 5 minutes. Because this is just awesome. I’m so happy to see this amazing opportunity fall into place for you and for you to take on step closer to what you want!

As Caleb said, we’ll do our best to get some warmth goin’ here by late March/early April, but I’m going to be honest – I would still wear your winter gear on the plane ride over :) Don’t want your new Radian6 buddies to think you’re a California girl or anything ;)

Seriously, though, a HUGE congratulations on amazing work done and amazing work to be done. Looking forward to seeing you around our very friendly (and very social) Chicago community sometime soon!

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:24 am

Thank you so much, Tim! You’ve definitely stuck by me through this search and I know you get how badly I’ve wanted great work and the chance to hang out in Chicago for more than a week at a time. I’m so looking forward to the upheaval! And you know we’ll have to celebrate. :)

Matt Cheuvront January 15, 2010 at 7:54 am

Wow…wow, wow, wow. I could not be happier for you Teresa. This is amazing news. You held out for something like this because you knew you were worth it and now, here you are. Congratulations isn’t saying enough – I can’t wait to celebrate next Friday, and keep the celebration going once you get here for good.

I told you back in October that I knew you would make it here and my faith in you has never dwindled. Well done Teresa, well done…

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:28 am

Thank you, Matt! It’s crazy how those gut feelings really do tend to steer you in the right direction. It was hard to hold out but I knew I had to. Looking forward to celebrating next week, too, and really celebrating when I’m all settled in!

Stephen Spiewak January 15, 2010 at 7:57 am

Congrats and welcome to the Windy City! :)

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:29 am

Thank you, Stephen! Looking forward to the change in scenery. :)

I am so thrilled to see your dreams coming true. This is the perfect job for you! Working in social media, writing, joining Amber and Radian6 AND moving to Chicago. It’s all coming together. And it’s wonderful to see what happens when you stay true to your vision and your strengths. And yes, it’s just the beginning. Congratulations again! You are a true star in the social media sphere.

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:30 am

Aw, thank you, Kat! You, more than a lot of people, knew what was going through my head through this process. Everything has moved and changed so quickly and I couldn’t be happier. The role is an incredible opportunity for me and I’m so excited…for the work, the move, the challenge of it all! :)

Sonny Gill January 15, 2010 at 8:05 am

This was certainly a long time coming but as I’ve always said, patience and continuing to bust your ass will land you that perfect job at the perfect time. I feel like we’ve all grown with you and gone through the ups and downs – I (and everyone else, I’m sure) always had faith in you and that something great would come together in this crazy universe.

And it has.

So all I can say is – CONGRATS and rock it out!

Teresa Basich January 15, 2010 at 8:34 am

Sonny, I feel like you and I were in similar roads and you knew exactly what I was going through. You’re so right — perseverance and patience are the name of the game, and you have to have faith in yourself. HAVE TO.

WOOO! Thank you, Mr. Gill. We’ll be celebrating in Chicago soon enough. :)

Dave Van de Walle January 15, 2010 at 8:28 am

Glad to have you on board with the rest of the gang here at Radian6 Teresa. I’ve been hearing tons of great things about you from Amber and looking forward to working with you. And considering how cold it is up here in the “north” of North America maybe we should be all moving down south to be with you :)

Welcome!
Cheers.

I’m constantly floored by the accomplishments of the Radian6 team and am thrilled to have the chance to be a part of all that awesomeness. Ms. Teresa — I wish there was a word better than “Congratulations” because I would definitely use it now. From the moment I landed on your blog during my own hard job search I’ve been a fan (yes, fan). I’m ready to get in the long line of Chicago people who are psyched to meet you when you get out here this spring! Oh hell, I’ll just go ahead and say it: CONGRATULATIONS! Radian6 is lucky to have you on board!!

So, of course, I had to wait for a bit of the tempest to die down to stop by and say, again, how thrilled I am to have you on the team. It’s going to be a heck of an adventure, and I can’t wait. Thanks for giving us a shot, and for your enthusiasm. Let’s go kick some butt, shall we?

Amber :)

Don’t be jealous! You guys work with R6 and you get to work with Amber on another level, as peers forging the road for future directors of community. That’s great stuff right there.

Re: the new plugin, your wish is my command. And I’d just like to remind you that you’re gonna be a dad in 10 WEEKS. Holy cow.
