Ummmm…

So, I suck. Here’s a vlog to make things better. Because you have no choice but to forgive me for my lack of writing after you see all my fun facial expressions and nostril flares and even hear me swear. Only once. I promise. At the very end. Take a deep breath, it’ll be fine…

I’m right there with you on blogging, Social Media, running in circles, saying the same things over and over – it’s forced me to take a step back and re-assess how I participate in Social Media, both personally and professionally – and even I’ve been struggling to come up with new content for Life Without Pants, so I’ve been writing/focusing on more ‘professional’ things on MattChevy.com.

I think it’s all a part of the evolution – I see a lot of people going through these very similar ‘changes’ and transitions. Social Media has become an integral part of many of our lives, but the way we use it and approach each channel is going to change, sometimes drastically, as time goes on.

You have a lot of great thoughts to share and I’m looking forward to the new direction your taking. Hope all is well!

I’m right there with both of you. I stopped posting so much content on my blog and decided it was time to bite the bullet and get a self-hosted site where I could post more professional writing and use as a portfolio, as well.

I’ve seen many others go through similar transitions in the past year or so and I like seeing what new directions we all go in. For a while it felt like everyone in this shared space was just parroting each other… I think the parrots are learning to speak for themselves now, though.

I look forward to seeing how all of this changes and evolves and keeping track of my own progress, as well. It’s interesting to see how far I’ve come since I first started blogging 12 years ago and what types of writing I’ve done, what platforms I’ve used, and what kinds of topics I decided to write about… I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Let’s all hit this rollercoaster ride together! ;)

Matt — I think you are so right in that this is kind of part of the natural evolution of blogging, and part of the evolution of our professional lives and the space we work in. I find value in having a blog an writing regularly, but I fully support taking a step back to make methodical decisions as to where to go next with our writing. The problem is, in the high-speed digital space, the time we need to regroup usually means we lose the attention of our readers. Oddly, I’m okay with that. We can always rebuild a following. Thanks, as always, for the support, my friend. :)

Sara — It does seem like people are making some attempts to think for themselves, doesn’t it? It’ll be fascinating to see where everyone goes, and I hope that we slow down talking about all this social media stuff and start talking about what really inspires us again. I’m stoked to see where we’re all headed, too. :)

Couldn’t agree more. I think the circles and repetition will always exist in this space.

Therefore, I say just ignore it? :) Looking forward to your new blog. I’m very interested in those same ideas (the revolution of media and communications), so will definitely be reading and would love to contribute in some way!

Yep, the repetition will always exist, but…I don’t have to be a part of it! Maybe you and I need to chat about the upcoming blog and having you guest post? I’ve always appreciated your point of view and really dig your blogging style. I’ll bug you about this, promise. :)

Haha wasn’t expecting the Fbomb. I have been going through the same recently, I haven’t really seen the point of a ‘personal’ blog at the moment. But I may also think about a more ‘professional’ one as well.

I like the sociological concept idea of your next blog, I would love to see how you run with it.

Oh, dear, I swear A LOT. I’m actually impressed that only came out once. :)

See, I LOVE personal blogging. I’m such a fan of people’s stories, about learning about what makes them tick outside the bounds of their professional lives, but I find that blogging has really moved away from that. People are protecting themselves by sharing less of who they are — which I totally understand — and it’s unfortunate for someone who like me, who really appreciates a person because of their life experiences, not because of their professional prowess.

That being said, though, I think it’s important we keep evolving this space and talking about the bigger picture, talking about how the social web is changing our society, and therefore changing the way business operates. Time to liven *that* particular discussion up.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Bryan! Appreciate it. :)
